Ashley B Chew.

Ashley Chew is a Visual Artist and Fashion Designer. Chew was born in Chicago, IL, but Indianapolis, IN is the place she has called home most of her 24 years. Chew studied Costume and Fashion Merchandising at Kent State University in Ohio, but relocated back to Indianapolis and completed her degree in Fine Arts in Fall 2015. Chew currently resides in the Broad Ripple area where she creates out of her home. In 2013 Chew was named RAW: Indianapolis Visual Artist of the Year for her work in painting. Chew has also just wrapped up a solo exhibition titled "ILOVEHER" at the Madame Walker Theatre in March of 2015. Aside from the Fine Arts, she has a high interest in fashion. Just in the past two years alone, she has worked alongside industry professionals during Miami Swim Week and New York Fashion Week, and also walking the runways of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week the past three consecutive seasons.  Chew is a fashion model signed with LModelz Management. This summer, she spent July 2015 as an Artist-In-Residence at Driftwood Studios in East London, South Africa. Balancing an education, Fine Arts, fashion modeling and internships is quite a full plate for her but she stays level headed while having a full grasp of every opportunity turning it into reality. During the New York Fashion Week Spring 2016 runway shows, she caused a ruckus in the fashion world by painting "Black Models Matter" across her handbag. This action was the leading fashion statement heard across the world as a protest against the lack of diversity on the runways. BlackModelsMatter is currently in development as a organization that will lead more women of color in hopes to improve the lack of diversity in fashion.
